FAQ

Smart design! As a stable cart or garden cart, Muller’s Smart Carts™ are designed to stand upright for easy raking or shoveling in, dumping, and lifting all sorts of heavy items…Easy on your back! The tubs are seamless and have no boltholes, so there’s less stress on the material and they can’t leak. Less prone to cracking, too. Patented snap-lock design lets you remove them from the carriage for other chores and fun, like mixing potting soil, washing the dog, or filling with party ice. Our tubs are more functional and hold more volume (and weight) because they’re closed at both ends --nothing spills out the back.

Mass marketing and big box stores – absolutely not. Smart Carts has always been a word of mouth product…and our success depends on your satisfaction. Our biggest compliment is when you recommend us to a friend or neighbor. At Smart Carts, we have chosen to produce a cart that will last you a lifetime--not disposable. If a part happens to break, we can supply you with just that part! Our modular construction allows for easy replacement with the least impact of wasteful costs and materials – You can even recycle the broken aluminum!

Is plastic really strong enough for your stable or garden cart?

Ours is! Smart Carts tubs are made from advanced ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), a special thermoplastic with long-chain molecules that transfer loads more effectively to the polymer backbone. This exceptionally tough material has the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic you can buy. It’s ultra-resistant to corrosive chemicals and has a coefficient of friction so low (comparable to that of Teflon®) that it’s called “self-lubricating”! It’s also 15 times more resistant to abrasion than carbon steel and is nontoxic. Needless to say, our UHMWPE tubs dramatically outperform wooden, steel, and lesser plastic cart tubs.

The Smart Carts frame looks light. Is it tough enough for the job?

Absolutely! Our frame is handcrafted from 6063-T832 aluminum alloy for light weight and superior strength. Then it’s satin-etched and anodized for good looks and maximum weather resistance. Our undercarriage—the sturdiest in the business—features a solid steel axle housed in a steel brace running from wheel to wheel under the frame. This special construction method is stronger than other attachment methods and cannot be torn from the frame. Yet a finished Smart Cart weighs less than 48 pounds.

Which wheel should I choose?

Our most asked question is 'which wheels should I choose?' There is no exact answer, but in general, we suggest that if you will use your cart on concrete, firm dirt or grass, even sloppy mud on firm ground, the 20" spoke wheels are best. Because of their larger diameter, they roll a bit easier, and because they are narrower, they maneuver slightly easier. However, if you have sand or a very soft grass or mulch, etc, the wider 16" tire will be a better choice. Sometimes however, it just comes down to the look or your preference.
Also, know that we have ‘flat free’ versions of both tires available for an extra fee. The advantage of course, is no more worries about flat tires. The trade-off is a ride that is a bit firmer or bumpier because there isn’t the air to absorb some of the shock on rough terrain.

What else should I know?

At Muller's Smart Carts, quality is in the details, too! Our wheels have extra-heavy spokes, replaceable sealed bearings, and have never collapsed in three decades in business. Replaceable skid plates on the frame protect the legs from wear. (You won’t find this attention to detail in some of our competitors’ carts.) Our hardware nuts are self-locking so the frame won’t loosen over time.

How good is the Smart Carts warranty?

It’s the best in the business! Our lifetime warranty covers all parts of the cart’s framework against cracking, breaking, or bending. Our tubs are warranteed for 5 years. Smart Carts are built with interchangeable parts for easy upgrades and repairs, and all parts are available separately. You can’t lose! Please call us or email with any warranty questions.

What is the Smart Carts Return Policy?

If you aren't satisfied that our cart has met your expectations within the first 30 days, you may return it in the original packaging for a refund--whether you have used it or not! We request you pack the cart as close to the original shipment as possible to minimize shipping damage back to us. You will need to call for a Return Authorization Number before shipping; this cost will be your responsibility. Once we receive your return, we will refund the original cost of your cart.

Are Smart Carts worth the cost?

Our customers say, “Yes!” Sure, a lesser cart is okay for light work—for a little while. But if you need a durable stable cart, a garden cart that won't fall apart, or a quality dock cart—a real value in a workhorse—you’ll want “the right tool for the job.” The real question isn’t how much Smart Carts costs up-front, but how long it keeps on giving. When you do the math, the cost per year of Smart Carts beats that of any other utility cart on the market. And unlike old-fashioned wooden or rusty steel carts, Smart Carts won’t fall apart and need maintenance and repairs year after year.

Where can I get parts and accessories for my Smart Carts?

You can get any and all parts for all Smart Carts right here on our website in our Shop Online section or give us a call at 800-366-6026.
Note: If you have a Carr Industries cart made in Santa Barbara, CA please call before ordering. We can still help you out, because the design is the same, but some parts were made differently.
